tshirts on hold

this year, my year 12 studio art folio will be based on the designing and printing of tshirts.

it is now that i finally realise, fully register, that i'm not ready to make tshirts for other people. i'm not at that level yet when people can rely on me to make the perfect shirt, exactly what they wanted and i'm not able to emotionally capable of taking the stress of dissappointment.

so this year, i'll be developing my skills and exerpience with tshirts. i'm going to actually start screen printing as it does seem to be the no.1 technique for tshirts and i'm going to find out which paint is best for fabrics.....since i've recently come up with some problems with wat i use

so the last shirt i did was for brittany's older sister. this was the shirt that made me realise that i've really really got to start screen printing. it's a purple shirt with a pink line cupcake on the bottom corner. to put the pink on the purple...i had to first put a white layer to make the pink standout [otherwise it could just look like a wet stain] and then i put on a pink layer and another layer of the pink cos some white was still seeable through the pink.

between layers i didn't move the stencil and because one layer would soak the paper and then i'd dry it all to apply another layer of paint and then so on

i think it was this that made the paper stick to the shirt...with the paint on some of the edges.

another thing is that the masking tape i used to keep the stencil down...well it melted a little and there was a small patch of sticky stuff that i couldn't get off.

so: i got my mum to wash it [to get rid of the paper and the glue stain]

she handwashed it with hot water and it sorta got...soft and come-off-able so she stopped and left it to dry.

the good thing is that the paper and glue stains that made the shirt look...VERY tacky and cheap are gone. but the kf logo is faded...the main text is a little smudgy and there are parts of the cupcake where the pink is sorta gone. suprisingly; frank on the back survived perfect.

so basically, i'm not gonna be making any shirts for anybody this year.

partially cos i'm still in the process of learning

and partially cos i'm not supposed to have any time cos if i do have some free time i should be working on my folio or japanese.

[not that many people will noe about my haitus of tshirts cos....not many people read blog any more and i don't really write in it anymore either]

lol so...i'm gonna just sorta sift through my 'want' lists and edit it slightly...probably not add anything.
